| As part of a trip to the U.S.A. with family and friends in August 1999 I had arranged to visit with Ray Guinta, one of our associated overseas members. Ray lives in Leonia, New Jersey. He gave me a book called Ships Data No. 1, USS North Carolina and a plans catalogue from the Floating Dry Dock. | ||||
| Introduction
The North Carolina Battle ship is the latest model in a long line of models I have constructed in the last twenty years. I have always been interested in building large models, as you can see on my members page. This model will be 7ft 7in long with a beam of 131/2in. (2311mm x 343mm)
|
The model will be built as the ship was depicted in September 1944, following a recent refit and new paint scheme. The keel of the North Carolina was laid at the New York Navy yard on Navy Day, October 27th 1937. The ship was launched on June 13th 1940 and commissioned on April 9th 1941. |

| Plans The plans for this model were obtained from the website dedicated to military modelling, The Floating Dry Dock, Kresgeville, PA 18333. The set of plans are drawn to 1:96 scale and depicts the ship dated September 1944, just after a refit and new camouflage scheme. |
Sheet 1 details the side view of the ship. Sheet 2 details the deck and superstructure plan. Sheet 3 details the hull sections and mast.

| Research The ship is based at Wilmington, North Carolina as part of a memorial museum. The museum runs a website with an online store, from which I purchased these books. U.S. Battleships in Action Part 1
