The Mersey Class all- weather lifeboat
has been designed and developed primarily for stations where the
lifeboat has to be launched into the sea from a carriage, although it is
capable of operating from slipways and may also lie afloat at berths.
Early Mersey class lifeboats are constructed from aluminium (12-001 to 12-010) with the first being placed on station at Bridlington, North Yorkshire, in November 1988. Later Mersey class lifeboats (12-0011 to 12-037) are constructed in fibre reinforced composite (FRC). Both aluminium and FRC are new materials for the RNLI, combining strength with light weight. |
